Vineyard Steward at Alta Orsa

Ricardo Garcia

Ricardo Garcia has been tending this land since 1999, when he first arrived from Nayarit, Mexico, a coastal region known for its rich volcanic soils and vibrant agriculture, where mango and tobacco fields stretch toward the Pacific. He made his home here at the estate and has raised both of his children among these vines, shaping not only the vineyard, but the life around it.

Over the years, Ricardo has left his mark in ways both seen and unseen. From the stone wall that welcomes you at the entrance, to the thoughtful drainage systems that protect the soils from erosion, his care for this place runs deep. His primary focus is the vineyard, where he is a master of irrigation and vine health, with an intuitive understanding that comes only from decades of close observation. He quite literally has his hands on every vine, and every grape that passes through Alta Orsa carries the imprint of his work.

In the cellar, Ricardo is Martin’s right hand through harvest, bringing the same steady presence and attention to detail to each fermentation. His contribution to Alta Orsa is immeasurable. This would not be the fine craft it is without him.

Beyond the vineyard, Ricardo finds joy in cooking, and you will often find him at the grill during gatherings, feeding the same community he helps sustain through the land.
