OWNER AND FOUNDER
After a decades-long career as a corporate attorney, Roger traded the concrete jungles of big cities for the peace and calm of rural life surrounded by lush vineyards. A native of Shanghai, Roger settled on the East Coast of the US in the late 1980s. Roger became interested in wine during his many trips to Europe in his 20s and 30s, especially to the south of France and all over Italy. However, it is in this corner of California that he has found his home and calling.
Together with Martin and Rico, Roger has founded the Alta Orsa brand to pay homage to the age-old tradition of winemaking and the bounty of sustainably farmed hillside vineyards. Our craftsmanship and philosophy might be old school and old world, but our wines are distinctively Californian.
Roger still travels the world, having been to all seven continents, but he always comes back every season to this little piece of heaven off the rugged Duncan Spring Road to witness, and take part in, the magic that happens in the rolling vineyards, on the crush pad, and in the cellars.
